PhotoSelector · Privacy

Your photos stay on your Mac.

PhotoSelector reads your photos where they are and keeps its marks and analysis on your Mac. This page explains exactly what that means for your data, in the app and on this website.

Overview#

This policy explains what the PhotoSelector app for Mac and this website do with data. The app and the website work differently, so they are described separately. In short: the app collects no data about you or your photos. It has no account, no analytics and no server of ours, and it uses the network only for Apple Maps, when you use a map. The website sets no cookies.

Who we are#

PhotoSelector is made by Krk Today d.o.o., Croatia (“we”), the controller of the personal data described here. This policy covers the PhotoSelector app for Mac and this website, photoselector.krk.today. For anything about privacy, write to info@krk.today.

Data we do not collect#

The PhotoSelector app sends nothing to us. In particular, it has:

  • no analytics, usage statistics or telemetry, and no automatic error reporting;
  • no advertising, advertising identifiers or tracking across apps and websites;
  • no account, registration or sign-in with us;
  • no copies of your photos, file names, folder contents, marks or metadata sent to us.

What is stored on your Mac#

Everything PhotoSelector remembers is stored only on your Mac, inside the app’s sandbox container: the marks database (the labels, ratings and rejects of your photos), your collections, keyword list and keyword sets, manual order, stacks, code tables, the ingest history, your settings and the folders you have given the app access to.

Caches are kept there too: thumbnails, previews and the results of the face and quality analysis. They can be rebuilt at any time; Settings ▸ Previews & Analysis shows their size and has a Clear button.

PhotoSelector runs in Apple’s App Sandbox: it can read only your Pictures folder and the folders you choose in the standard macOS Open dialog or drop on its sidebar. It stores no passwords, and it doesn’t ask for your camera, microphone, contacts, calendars or Photos library.

What is written to your folders#

  • XMP sidecars of RAW files (for example DSC01.xmp next to DSC01.ARW): your marks, and the metadata you set, such as copyright, keywords, location, rotation and Camera Raw settings. These are the files Bridge, Lightroom and Camera Raw read; everything else in an existing sidecar is kept as it is.
  • Inside JPEG and TIFF files only if you turn on Settings ▸ Metadata ▸ Write metadata into JPEG and TIFF files (off by default). RAW, PSD, HEIC, PNG and DNG files are never written.
  • Files you ask for: exports, contact sheet PDFs, copies from memory cards, and the moves, renames and trashing you choose.

Exports carry no labels, ratings or Camera Raw settings, and contact sheet PDFs no photo metadata at all.

Analysis on your Mac#

Face detection (closed eyes, blurred faces), sharpness and quality scores, scenes and Suggest Rejects run on your Mac with Apple’s built-in frameworks. No photo is uploaded anywhere. PhotoSelector finds faces to check eyes and focus; it does not recognise or identify people. The results are only hints: they are kept in the app’s cache and never written into your photos.

Maps and location#

PhotoSelector uses the network only for maps, and only when you use them: the map tiles of the Map view, and in File Info the Location tab’s map, Search for a place and Fill from GPS, which looks up the city, state and country of a photo’s coordinates.

These requests go directly from your Mac to Apple Maps, as in any Mac app that shows a map, and are handled under Apple’s own privacy policy. Apple receives the area of the map being shown (which can be where your photos were taken), the text you search for, or the coordinates being looked up. Nothing passes through a server of ours. Without a connection, pins, drops and typed coordinates still work.

PhotoSelector never asks for your location: it doesn’t use Location Services, and the map never shows where you are.

Other apps and printing#

Opening photos in Photoshop or another editor simply asks macOS to open the files in that app; what that app does with them is governed by its own terms. Printing is used only for Contact Sheet… ▸ Print….

App Store purchases and diagnostics#

PhotoSelector will be sold through the Mac App Store. Apple handles the purchase and payment under Apple’s own privacy policy; we don’t receive your name, email address or payment details. Apple gives us aggregated sales and download figures.

If you chose in macOS to share analytics with app developers, Apple may also give us crash reports and usage statistics that do not identify you. We use them only to find and fix problems.

Website privacy#

  • No cookies, analytics or advertising, no third-party scripts or fonts, and nothing stored in your browser.
  • The small flag images of the language switcher are loaded from flagcdn.com, which receives your IP address and the request like any web server. The screenshots and the demo video come from this website.
  • Server logs: like any web server, ours may keep technical access logs (IP address, time, page requested, browser type) to keep the site secure and running. They are processed by our web hosting provider on our behalf, kept only as long as needed for that purpose, and never used to identify or track you. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in operating a secure website (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)).

Contact emails#

If you email us, we use your email address and message only to answer you and handle your request; the same goes for a file you choose to send us to show a problem. They are processed by our email provider on our behalf, kept only as long as needed for that and any follow-up, and never sold or shared for marketing. Legal basis: answering you and taking steps you ask for (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b) and (f)).

Children#

PhotoSelector collects no personal data from anyone, including children.

Your rights under the GDPR#

You may ask us what personal data we hold about you, and have it corrected, deleted or restricted, object to its use, or receive a copy. As the app collects none, this normally concerns only website logs and emails you sent us. Write to info@krk.today; we answer within one month.

You may also lodge a complaint with the Croatian data protection authority, AZOP (azop.hr), or with the authority of the EU country where you live.

Policy changes#

If this policy changes, we update it here and change the date at the top. If a version of the app ever handles data differently, this page will say so before that version is released.
